Life and Times of Michael K

Booker Prize Foundation commissions drama company, Story Machine Productions, to produce an immersive performance of The Life and Times of Michael K.

Story Machine Productions will bring to life books at festivals through producing immersive performances in collaboration with filmmakers, dancers, actors, musicians and visual artists.

The Life and Times of Michael K premieres at Edinburgh International Book Festival on 15 August – tickets are available for that here. Also at Edinburgh, the chair of this year’s Man Booker International Prize, Lisa Appignanesi, is joined by the winning book’s translator, Jennifer Croft, and fellow judge, translator and poet Michael Hofmann to discuss Olga Tokarczuk’s work (tickets available here). Hofmann will also discuss the joys and challenges of interpreting novels with Frank Wynne, translator of shortlisted novel Vernon Subutex 1 by Virginie Despentes, along with Jennifer Croft and Antonia Lloyd-Jones, who have both translated Tokarczuk’s work (tickets here).

The Life and Times of Michael K will also be staged at The Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 2018 on 13 October, as part of Man Booker Prize Day, which includes an event in which the shortlisted authors read from, and talk about, their novels, and the Cheltenham Booker, in which a panel members argue the case for books published in a set year before the prize started in 1969 – this year, 1958.
